"Nuclear Physics with Modern Magnetic Spectrometers", Dec. 14-16, 2010

INFN-LNS, Catania , Italy
Modern ray-tracing Magnetic Spectrometers allows to detect ejectiles with both large acceptance and high resolution in energy, reaction angles, mass, charge state and atomic number. This very important achievement is reached thanks to a very careful optical design of such devices and to the full implementation of the trajectory reconstruction technique. From the experimental Nuclear Physics point of view one expects that such Instruments allow to measure with unprecedented accuracy even small cross sections and/or clearly detect rare events as those induced by Radioactive Beams. Moreover the large acceptance strengthens the possibility to measure coincidences with ancillary detectors and sign the decay details of the populated states and the leading reaction mechanism.

The aim of the present workshop is to review the current applications and outline the future of these facilities in the field of nuclear reactions induced by both stable and RIBs, including the detectors and electronics involved.

The covered topics will be: Elastic and non-elastic reactions, Nuclear spectroscopy, Momentum and mass spectrographs, and Focal plane and ancillary detectors. The workshop will be hosted by the INFN-LNS. It will start on Tuesday afternoon (December 14th) and will end on Thursday midday (December 16th). The applicants are welcomed to preregister and, those wishing, submit an abstract in the workshop web-site MAGNET2010. Oral presentations will be selected by the Scientific Committee among the submitted abstracts. The deadline for abstract submission is November 15th 2010.

We ask for a registration fee of 100 Euros, that should be paid upon arrival. Some lodging, free of charge, is possible at the LNS guesthouse. Updated information will be posted at the workshop web-site MAGNET2010 The registration deadline is November 15, 2010.

"Astronomy with Radioactivities", Mar. 1 - 3, 2011

We would like to invite you to attend the 7th workshop in the series on "Astronomy with Radioactivities" at Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia. This workshop will be held from the 1st to 3rd of March 2011, with registration on the evening of the 28th of February and a visit to the fairy penguins at sunset on the 3rd of March. web: http://cspa.monash.edu.au/awr7/.

The scope of this workshop is to bring together:
- Observers of radioactive isotopes, from stellar/radio/X-ray/gamma-ray spectroscopy, to cosmic rays and meteoritic isotope analysis
- Theoreticians of cosmic nucleosynthesis in its wide variety, from supernova explosion and massive star to asymptotic giant branch stars, cosmic ray, and binary systems, as well as cosmic chemical evolution
- Experimentalists and theoreticians of nuclear reaction rates involving radioactive isotopes

The driver for our discussions is to understand how nature forms the radioactive nuclei we observe and what are the effects of their presence in the universe. Topics to be addressed include, but are not limited to, observations of gamma rays from the decay of radioactive material, nuclear processes in stellar interiors, radioactivity-powered light from supernovae, neutrinos, positrons, and cosmic rays in the Galaxy, and  meteoritic analysis showing the decay products of live radioactivities injected at the dawn of the solar system.
This series of workshop started in 1996 in Clemson, South Carolina (USA) as "The Radioactive Galaxy", and was later continued mostly at the Max Planck Society's Ringberg castle in the Bavarian alps (Germany) under the title of "Astronomy with Radioactivities". Starting from the discussions in these workshop, a review book on this theme has been recently assembled, to be published in July 2010 by Springer in its "Lecture Notes in Physics" series, as Issue 812.

"Advances in Radioactive Isotope Science - 2011", May 29 - June 3, 2011

The first International Conference on Advances in Radioactive Isotope Science (ARIS - 2011) will be held in Leuven, Belgium, from May 29 to June 3, 2011. This new series of conferences results from a merger of the “International Conference on Exotic Nuclei and Atomic Masses (ENAM)’ and the ‘International Conference on Radioactive Nuclear Beams (RNB)’. The origin of the ENAM conferences goes back to the 1950s and 1960s to the ‘Atomic Mass and Fundamental Constants (AMCO)’ and the ‘Nuclei Far From Stability (NFFS)’ series of conferences. Held jointly in 1992, the conferences officially merged in 1995 in Arles, France where the first ENAM conference was held. Since then subsequent conferences took place in Bellaire, Michigan (1998), in Hämeenlinna, Finland, (2001), in Callaway Gardens - Pine Mountain, Georgia USA (2004) and in Ryn, Poland (2008). The first RNB conference was organized in Berkeley, U.S.A. (1989) and the series continued with events in Louvain la Neuve, Belgium (1991), East Lansing, U.S.A. (1993), Ohmiya, Japan (1996), Divonne-les-Bains, France (2000), Argonne, U.S.A. (2003), Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy (2006) and Grand Rapids, U.S.A. (2009).

The new ‘Advances in Radioactive Isotope Science (ARIS)’ series of conferences aims to provide an international forum to foster information exchange and collaboration amongst the researchers in the field. The program of ARIS -2011 is expected to include the most recent experimental and theoretical advances in the field and include the following list of topics:
Nuclear structure, Nuclear astrophysics, Fundamental symmetries and interactions, Atomic masses and fundamental constants, Nuclear moments and radii, Rare decay modes, Reactions with radioactive ion beams, Nuclei at the drip lines, Heaviest elements and fission, Radioactive ion beam production, experimental developments, and applications.

"Direct Reactions with Exotic Beams 2012 (DREB2012)", March 26-29, 2012

We are happy to announce that the next Direct Reactions with Exotic Beams workshop will be held in Pisa, Italy in early Spring 2012. This meeting will be the 7th in the series which began in 1999 and focuses on the experimental, theoretical, and instrumental aspects of direct reactions with radioactive beams.

The meeting will run over 4 days, from the morning of Monday 26 March through to the evening of Thursday 29 March. The programme will include, as in the past, a workshop dinner and a free afternoon on the Wednesday.

In keeping with the workshop’s tradition, the meeting will be of an informal character: no proceedings will be published and talks will be selected on the basis of contributed abstracts with an emphasis on those presenting new results. Similarly the registration fee will be kept to a minimum. At present we envisage this being in the range of approximately 50 Euro (students) – 75 Euro (others).  A web site will be set up in the near future and more information will follow at that point.

Looking forward to seeing you in Pisa in 2012,
Angela Bonaccorso and Nigel Orr
