POSTDOCTORAL POSITION in Theoretical Nuclear Physics at Florida State University

The Florida State University Physics Department is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in Theoretical Nuclear Physics. Current interests of the group include, but are not limited to, neutron-star, nuclear, and hadronic structure and reactions. Members of the group collaborate closely with experimental and theoretical groups throughout the world. The starting date for this position is flexible, but should begin no earlier than the Fall semester of 2010. The appointment is for one year with possibility for a second year subject to the availability of funding. To apply, send a resume and the names of at least three references to Prof. Jorge Piekarewicz, Physics Department, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida 32306-4350. Review of applications will start immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Florida State University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and it especially encourages applications from women and members of minority groups.

May 2010:
Chief Scientist of Experimental Nuclear Physics at RIKEN Nishina Center

RIKEN invites applications for a Chief Scientist (Laboratory Director) to lead a new laboratory in experimental nuclear physics using the RI-Beam Factory (RIBF) of RIKEN Nishina Center. The RIBF is one of the world's leading facilities for the investigation of nuclear physics, with a potential capability to produce more than 1000 new radioactive isotopes. For details of the RIBF, please visit the website at http://www.nishina.riken.go.jp/Eng/index.html. The successful candidate should have a strong research background and teaching ability at the graduate school level in nuclear physics. The candidate is expected to take a key leadership role in the nuclear physics community, and to promote research at RIBF as well as its scientific programs via international collaborations. In addition, he/she is asked to contribute to RIKEN's management and research planning activities as a Chief Scientist. RIKEN expects that the successful candidate will be able to take up this position on April 1, 2011. Applicants should send (1) a full curriculum vitae and photograph; (2) one copy each of five key publications; (3) a statement (about five pages of A4-sized paper) explaining former research experience and research plans at RIBF; and (4) the names and addreses of three referees who might provide reference letters. Further details are posted at http://www.riken.jp/engn/r-world/info/recruit/k100917_e_rnc.html. All documents should reach RIKEN by September 17, 2010. Applicants should address all correspondence to: Dr. Osamu Kamigaito, Head of the Chief Scientist Nominating Committee, RIKEN Nishina Center, 2-1 Hirosawa, Wako-shi, Saitama 351-0198, Japan. E-mail: kamigait at riken.jp.

Post-doctoral Position in Radioactive Beam Development at CERN-ISOLDE

The CENBG Bordeaux http://www.cenbg.in2p3.fr/  and IEM-CSIC Madrid http://www.iem.cfmac.csic.es/departamentos/nuclear/fnexp/index_es.html have opened a one-year position (renewable for a second year) for beam development at CERN-ISOLDE.

The successful candidate will be under French (1st  year) followed by Spanish contract (2nd year) but will be stationed at CERN, Geneva. He/She should have a recent PhD in an area related to ion beam development (high power targets and/or ion sources). He/she should be of European Community citizenship.

ISOLDE (http://isolde.web.cern.ch/ISOLDE/ ) is the Radioactive Beam facility at CERN that uses 1.4 GeV protons from the CERN accelerator complex to produce and deliver a broad variety of low energy and post-accelerated radioactive beams to a large user community. The ISOLDE development team continuously strives to increase the variety and intensity of the beams to satisfy the user requirements. The post-doctoral fellow will join this team and work on R&D for the improvement of the targets and ion sources and on the development of new beams.

Interested persons may contact
Dr. Bertram Blank [blank at cenbg.in2p3.fr ]  and/or Prof. Maria Jose García Borge [borge@iem.cfmac.csic.es ]  to obtain further information if desired.
Candidates should send a detailed CV and arrange to have 2 letters of recommendation send to Bertram Blank and M.J.G. Borge.

UNIRIB / ORAU Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Nuclear Physics Decay Spectroscopy

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) invites applications for one postdoctoral position in the University Radioactive Ion Beam Consortium. The UNIRIB Consortium is a collaboration of a number of universities which work together to perform nuclear decay spectroscopy research. This consortium primarily carries out decay spectroscopy experiments at Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility (HRIBF). A wide variety of state-of-art detector systems are used. In addition, the consortium is currently completing an ultra high resolution separator (M / dM ~ 400,000) [Oak Ridge Isomer Spectrometer and Separator (ORISS)] allowing the separation and study of any isobar as well as some isomers. In collaboration with the HRIBF, a Modular Total Absorption Spectrometer is being built and will be utilized with ORISS. UNIRIB has an immediate opening for a two-year position as a postdoctoral researcher, to be stationed at the HRIBF, who will perform decay spectroscopy experiments in collaboration with UNIRIB researchers. The successful candidate will carry out research as part of the UNIRIB consortium and will be expected to develop and propose new experiments. A special emphasis will be on designing experiments for the ORISS system that will take advantage of the exceptional resolving power.

The position will remain open until an outstanding candidate is found.

Interested applicants should complete an application found at:
www.orau.org/documents/unirib/unirib-application-2010.doc

Questions concerning the positions should be directed to either:

Dr. H. K. Carter (ken.carter at orau.org)
Dr. J. A. Winger (j.a.winger at msstate.edu.)
